Mindless ramblings for today.

cats, pets
Since I've now linked this journal with my SigNet account, I guess I should update it regulary, so that all the sisters can be kept abreast of the riveting details of my life.  So today in class, we watched the inauguration.  I've got to say, this is the first inaugurationf that I've watched from start to finish.  It was pretty cool!

And now I sit here, trying to decide if I should attend an inauguration party in downtown Tampa.  It's so COLD that I really lack the will to do anything other than lie in a hot bath.  Perhaps will just snuggle up with the cat and a heating pad.

OK...so over the last few weeks, I've had a lot of time to think about relationships, people, life, whatnot.  January's been crazy.  So much so, that I've decided not to think of events as "good" or "bad"  but just "things that happen".  And I've also decided that people's actions are not a reflection on me, but on them (boyfriends going AWOL, etc...).  It's been really freeing to think of things this way.

Anyway, I'm rambling.  Been on the computer far too long.

This whole weekend I have been on a quest to get a St. Paddy’s Day banner/flag to hang outside my house. I don’t know why. I’m not even Irish! They had them at Michael’s, but they don’t have them in stock. So, I went over to Serendipity (expensive, very cute gift store over on Davis Island). Of course, THEIR flags were twice as much!!! Decided to go INTO Serendipity. (bad choice). They are stocked with Webkins, and my teacher’s brain snapped into spending overdrive. Remembered how Cori had a monkey webkin in her classroom, and she lets one student from her class take it home with them over the weekend. Then, they write in the “webkins” journal what they did. (actually, it’s supposed to be the webkin itself writing in the journal. And also, being a monkey, it fits with our African theme. Crap. Gonna have to buy a webkin AND a flag now.

SO I have decided to try going to the Aveda Institute to get my hair done by the students there. That should cut the cost of highlights, cut and style in half. Trivial, I know, but important to me just the same. I may get rid of cable as well, TV sucks anyway. I need to seriously cut down on my spending…

Yesterday, with very little fore-thought, I chopped about 6-7 inches off my hair. It was almost boob length, and now it’s just above my collar bone. It just felt long, dry, and dead to me. In any case, it really feels like I’ve “lightened my load”. Oh! and it’s very bright, too…light blonde highlights with red streaks mixed in and my natural dark brown. I feel so refreshed! :)

Just let it go...

It’s funny how I spent the drive to and from Tallahassee obsessing about past grudges. This, during the holiday weekend, when gratitude is the key phrase of the day. I’ve decided, in my life, that I have bigger fish to fry than to worry about people who may have wronged me in the past. I’ve been carrying these negative feelings towards these people for way too long, and it’s becoming unhealthy. It’s also really trivial. If I need to worry about anything (which, right now, thank God I don’t) it’s the big stuff. Sooo…new on the list is to conciously let it go! :)

For the first time in years I'm actually excited about X-Mas! I even bought a wreath to decorate and pawed through my box of X-Mas ornaments. Tomorrow, I'll go by Anna's house to get my tree and start the Christmas decorating frenzy. Jeeze, we haven't even had Thanksgiving yet.

So you're in love with The Doctor. Who wouldn't be, with a gorgeous mug like his? But how much do you actually help him out? Not a whole lot. You're not the one who figures things out, and you're certainly not winning any awards for kick-assery. Still, you're pleasant enough to be around, and exactly what the Doctor needs to start getting over his emo side. It certainly doesn't hurt that you're the first companion who really knows how to dance.

Better...

  • Oct. 3rd, 2007 at 4:42 PM

Yes, I am better today.  I placed the recommendation form for Reading Coach carefully and lovingly in my principal's chair.  AND...
Possible dating- situation- person called me last night.  We made plans to do something on Friday.
AND...
A teacher spent all day taking care of a puppy that she found in the school parking lot.  I had her and another teacher trying to talk me into adopting her all day.  Mr. C. even said that they'd all put in to get the puppy her shots if I'd take her.   I feel so loved.  Even though yesterday I didn't get one ridiculous "teacher shout-out" (these little blue certificates that one teacher can give another if they do a really neat lesson).

Apparently, I am not going to be able to sleep much for the next few weeks.  Saturday morning, I have to meet some other teachers at the mall at 7am to drive over to St. Petersburg to do the "Race for the Cure".  The next two Saturdays I have sadistically signed myself up to take writing trainings from 8:30-1:30.  It's cool.  I need the money!!!!

Oh.No.  I've wasted too much time on the computer.

Why am I so stressed???

  • Oct. 2nd, 2007 at 5:06 PM

Today I feel really shaken up and out of sorts. I really don't know why. There is no reason for it. I'm overwhelmed at work, but that never really changes. I'm just going to take it easy tonight, I think. I'm looking forward to teaching my yoga class; I think it will benefit me as much as the members at the gym tonight.

The more I think about it, the more I think that I need to go for the Reading Coach position. Reading Coaches have cool jobs. Essentially, they work with teachers, training and assisting them in their reading curriculum. So I would shift from teaching children to training and helping other teachers. I think I would rock out at this!!!

Also, I really need a change. I'm becoming stagnant. I need to learn new things. I've been teaching Language Arts for the past five years. Maybe it's time for me to move on. Of course, the Reading Coach training is crazy hard. That would add to more stress...but I think I'd really enjoy it in the long run.

Oh! And another thought that has nothing to do with anything: I want to save up enough money to go to a yoga certification retreat for like a week or so, hopefully somewhere beautiful and exotic like Costa Rica.
Must be calm, and be present like the Buddhist Monks.

Birthday rant

  • Oct. 1st, 2007 at 4:39 PM

I have to say, I had a fabulous, fantastic weekend, and just a little craziness last night.  Starting off, I had a really enjoyable time with someone who appears much classier than the men I've been hanging out with lately.  Example:  the person in question called me on a Wednesday to see if I wanted to go to dinner on Friday.  And on Friday, he delivered by taking me to Ceviche, a very nice tapas restaurant.  Unfortunately, I had too much sangria and red wine, and was ill on Saturday morning.  But I rallied later.  ☺

Saturday was my actual birthday, and after I was done vomiting, I had a great day!  Leann and I met at Pink Flamingo for a late lunch, and then got pedicures.  Then, I stopped by Rick's house to check out his "back-to-black" party.  At 8, a bunch of friends came over to my house and then we all went to Ybor City, to Acropolis to, as I put it, "watch Greek people eat Greek food and watch non-Greek people eat Greek food."  It was one of those nights where everyone got along and seemed to genuinely enjoy each other's company.  We hung out in Ybor for a bit after that, but I was showing temperance and "making good choices" because I had to teach Body Flow on Sunday morning.

Sunday, Anna and Dan stopped by with my lawn mower that they put together for me.  Then, I got a text from a friend who wanted to stop by after watching the Buc's game (which we won).  Dude couldn't stand up by the time he got over here...he ended up passing out in my extra bedroom.  More on that ridiculousness later.

Oh, and the weather here is insanely beautiful.  Low humidity, cool breezes, and everyone is completely blissed-out by it.  Gawd, I love the fall.   I even made a cute little Halloween themed apron to wear at school.  Can't freakin' WAIT for Halloween and Guavaween.  Here's a pic of my apron.  I'm very proud.
And, finally, I leave you with a pic of some flowers that I took in Hyde Park a couple of weeks ago:

I think I have a DATE on Friday.  OK, that's lame, but I just wanted to rhyme.  And that's about it.  It's always nice to be asked out when you don't expect it.

Ummm...and I just spent an hour down in Hyde Park, having the same conversation over and over again..."What's new with you?" "Oh nothing, just working a lot."

My friends do rock though.  I really lucked into finding a group of fun, witty, intelligent people to hang out with.

Enough screwing around.  Must go cleanse self and get ready to rise at DAWN tomorrow.

2 small things...

So I'm taking the 2 small things challenge and every day, I'm doing two small things differently than my normal routine. Here's what I did differently today: 1. Watched "Heroes" DVD this morning at, like 6am whilst getting ready for work. 2. Braided my still damp hair and will sleep that way to see what kind of frizz like substance I end up with in the morning. Riveting, I know.

Braveheart Costume???

I LOVE Halloween.  It's truly my favorite holiday.  I have a question to any of you who may be reading...
I'm going to be in a parade for Halloween (Guavaween here in Tampa), and we were told the theme is "Braveheart".  I have REALLY limited funds...any ideas for a cheap, "Braveheart-y"  looking costume?  The only thing I have so far is the corset I'm wearing in my profile pic...
Thanks!!!

Book-a-rama

I’ve read several books over the course of the summer. Here’s my reading list: Eat, Pray, Love-Elizabeth Gilbert, Keeping Faith-Jody Piccault, HP and the Deathly Hollows, Rise and Shine-Anna Quindlen, 19 minutes, Piccalt (I’m not sure if I’m spelling her name correctly). Eat, Pray, Love was by far, the very best. The quality of Gilbert’s writing is excellent-she manages to be funny even when she’s writing about the dissolution of her marriage. I want to set a reading goal for myself-maybe two novels per month? I generally read right before I go to sleep so it takes me some time to get through a book. I usually wake up with my face pressed in the pages. :)
